Do you like happy hours and open bars? So do I! And so do your health insurance and the big pharma groups. In short, everyone loves an OpenBar and a good mojito, but it's also driving up healthcare costs.
When illness strikes, having insurance is an undeniable relief. Without it, you could end up with exorbitant bills, similar to those in the U.S., that could run as high as 300 000€ ! Although the idea of health insurance is attractive on paper, it has gradually turned into a free buffet where everyone can help themselves with impunity.
1) Health insurance
On the front line are the insurance companies themselves, who generously dip into the coffers to finance real estate investments, marketing campaigns, luxurious head offices with unobstructed views and bloated administration. Not to mention the kickbacks and lobbying required to maintain the status quo. After all, who would want to give up their panoramic view?
2) Public services
Then there are the public health services, where incompetence and bureaucracy sometimes reign, more inclined to maintain their authority than to improve the situation. It's a real problem!
3) Companies
Then there are the giants of the pharmaceutical industry, whose prices keep rising year after year, using inflation, crises or innovations as pretexts. Curiously, their prices never seem to come down.
4) We
And then there's us, disillusioned, aware that the system is flawed, but resigned to the idea that it's always better than nothing. Having paid, we consume, because it seems right. This mentality contributes to annual cost inflation, which inevitably leads to implosion.
So what's the solution? Transparency. Every penny should be traceable, allowing us to understand where it ends up. This information must be open to all, because that's the only way to revive the collective consciousness and put an end to this free buffet mentality where we say to ourselves, "Why deprive ourselves if everyone else benefits?" Next time you go to vote or discuss these issues, keep in mind that transparency is key.
With that, I leave you to my physiotherapy session. After all, it's all-you-can-eat.
